News Flash: New York Community Garden Coalition’s City Hall rally held yesterday, August 4, got the attention of politicians and media with City Council Speaker Quinn and Member Melissa Mark-Viverito coming out with strong statements of support for gardens being preserved “as a permanent part of New York” (Quinn). Let them know what your garden means to you and your community and encourage them to continue to fight for gardens. Contact them through: http://council.nyc.gov.
Calling All Community Gardeners: Public Hearing on Proposed Rules for community gardens under Parks and HPD jurisdiction, Tuesday, August 10, 2010, 11 am at the Chelsea Recreation Center (430 W 25th St., btwn 9th & 10th aves.). These rules are intended to replace the expiring 2002 agreement, but they do not offer the same protections. Gardeners and friends of gardens are encouraged to register to comment and/or submit written statements. Please visit the New York City Community Garden Coalition’s (NYCCGC) web site at www.nyccgc.org to read the rules proposed by both Parks and HPD and compare them to the expiring agreement.
